亚洲天堂鈥檚 Faculty of Education,听one of the听world鈥檚 leading听education听faculties,听has served the local, national, and international education community through leadership in research, teaching, service and advocacy听for more than 60 years.听As the largest Faculty of Education in British Columbia, it plays a critical and influential role in the advancement of education in the province, shaping and participating in education鈥檚 possibilities and potential as a social good.听

Today, the Faculty of Education creates conditions for transformative teaching, innovative learning, and leading-edge research guided by the highest standards of scholarship and the principles of collaboration, social justice, inclusion and equity. Offering undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as professional development opportunities, the Faculty of Education enrolls thousands of students each year on two campuses and ranks 10th in the world, according to QS World University听Rankings (2021).

Research Facilities

We provide outstanding research facilities for faculty and graduate students that promote leading-edge research. Our Education Library is a specialized resource with access to all of 亚洲天堂鈥檚 research and special collections, including the X瘫wi7x瘫wa Library with materials produced by Indigenous organizations, tribal councils, schools, researchers and publishers.

The Faculty鈥檚 Education Research and Learning Commons at Ponderosa Commons features technology-enhanced teaching and learning spaces and also informal learning spaces. A number of faculty manage their own research labs, situated throughout campus.听

Many of our PhD students have been selected as 亚洲天堂 Public Scholars and have received other honours.

Research Highlights

Notable strengths are in literacy education and multilingualism; struggling and marginalized youth; Indigenous education, decolonization, and research; transformational program and curriculum design and inclusive pedagogies for schools, community organizations and higher education; sexual orientation and gender-identity inclusive education; social-emotional learning and well-being; autism; exercise physiology, socio-cultural aspects of health; neuromechanical studies; and multidisciplinary research in diversity, health, early childhood education, and digital media. The School of Kinesiology ranks 1st in Canada and 4th in the world by QS World University听Rankings (2021).

亚洲天堂鈥檚 Faculty of Education is the national leader in the number of education graduate student fellowships received from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Additionally, the Faculty of Education is home to six Canada Research Chairs, one CIHR chair and nine donor-funded research chairs and professorships.听

2025 Of special interest to inclusive education practioners, this musical storytelling intervention was designed for general classroom use, maximizing joyful learning for students of all abilities. 2025 Dr. Brass explored the experiences of skilled immigrant women language teachers. Her findings revealed systemic inequities in the Canadian workforce. Her research also highlights how non-humans, such as pets and objects, support these women navigate their lives in Canada, challenging traditional human-centered analyses of immigration and identity. 2025 Dr. Ee studied parents with ADHD and their experiences of raising children with the same condition. Her research provides a unique perspective on the complex family dynamics when parent and child share similar ADHD traits, highlighting how parental ADHD can be leveraged as a strength to help overcome challenges and support children's development. 2025 Dr. MacKenzie studied caregiver joint goal-directed action in adolescent anorexia recovery using the Action-Project Method with caregivers worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her research explored how caregivers approach meal support to foster recovery and connection during family-based treatment. These findings support caregivers, clinicians, and recovering adolescents. 2025 Dr. Royea explored elementary mathematics teacher candidates experiences participating in professional development focused on collaboratively planning, teaching, and revising learning situations. 2025 As a scholar of gender and international studies in curriculum theory, Dr. Takemura studied shifts in Japanese men鈥檚 perceptions of motherhood after World War II, concluding with perspectives of mothers in contemporary Japanese society. 2025 Dr. Athi茅 Mart铆nez studied how non-Indigenous teachers from the greater Vancouver area are integrating Indigenous perspectives and reconciliation acts in their classroom. 2025 Dr. Bennett explored how trauma therapists who become vicariously resilient through their work with clients with trauma experience both professional and personal growth. Incorporating vicarious resilience into training and supervision models for therapists has the potential to mitigate the risks for experiencing negative impacts of trauma work. 2025 Dr. Molyneux鈥檚 mixed methods study developed a comprehensive understanding of factors that affect Grade 6-8 students鈥 school belonging based on their own perceptions. She found that students鈥 belonging is enhanced through experiences of comfort, care, and connection. The findings can inform school-based initiatives to promote belonging. 2025 Dr. Warkentin鈥檚 research examines how characteristics of place inform curriculum in higher education. Focused on St贸:l艒 T茅m茅xw, the land commonly known as the Fraser Valley, this project combines historical analysis and conversations with Indigenous leaders and educators to inform unlearning and relationality in specific areas of curriculum.
