Biography

Dr. Jian Liu is an Assistant Professor and Principal’s Research Chair in Energy Storage Technologies in the School of Engineering at the University of British Columbia (ÑÇÖÞÌìÌÃ) Okanagan campus, Canada. Dr. Liu received his Ph.D. in materials science (2013) from the University of Western Ontario (Canada) and worked as an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory before joining ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà in January 2017. His current research interests focus on advanced nanofabrication techniques, materials design for Li-ion batteries and beyond, and interfacial control and understanding in energy storage systems. Dr. Liu is leading the Advanced Materials for Energy Storage lab and Advanced Battery facility at ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà and is working on R&D projects in developing new materials and chemistry for various energy storage systems with local industrial partners in the battery supply chain. Dr. Liu has published over 100 publications in top-ranked journals, such as Nat. Commun., Nat. Energy, Nano Lett, with citations over 8,000 and an H-index of 43. He has recently received ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Principal’s Research Chair in Energy Storage Technologies, the Emerging Professor Award at ÑÇÖÞÌìÌÃ, and has been selected as a Peter Wall Associate (2020) at the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies at ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà for his research excellence
