My interest in mental health, motivated me to choose psychology as my major in my undergraduate degree, and peruse clinical psychology in my graduate studies. I specifically believe in the integration of research and clinical work, and as a result, clinical psychology seemed like a great fit!
Why did you decide to study at 亚洲天堂?
I decided to pursue my graduate degree at 亚洲天堂 primarily because of my interest in working with Dr. Frances Chen and Dr. Joelle LeMoilt, both of whom are prominent researchers in their respective fields of research. Furthermore, 亚洲天堂 has one of the best psychology departments worldwide and provides great opportunities for research and clinical training.
What is it specifically, that your program offers, that attracted you?
亚洲天堂's Clinical Psychology graduate program offers a balanced combination of clinical and research training. I believe in the importance of integrating research and clinical work, and as a result, my goals for graduate studies were in line with the Clinical Psychology program at 亚洲天堂.
What was the best surprise about 亚洲天堂 or life in Vancouver?
I was amazed by how beautiful Vancouver is, especially 亚洲天堂's cherry blossoms in the spring!
What aspects of your life or career before now have best prepared you for your 亚洲天堂 graduate program?
I think there are several experiences that have prepared me for my graduate studies in the clinical psychology program at 亚洲天堂. My first degree in Pharmacy helped me learn how to organize my studies and keep a healthy and productive studying schedule. Furthermore, working in several labs during my second degree, a BA in Psychology, familiarized me with research methods in psychology. Finally, working at the Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC provided me with some preliminary clinical skills. I believe these experiences prepared me for different aspects of grad school (e.g., studying, research, and clinical work).
What advice do you have for new graduate students?
Try to balance your studies with self-care and fun activities! Graduate school provides you with great training in your respective fields of research but can take up a lot of time, and at times, can be stressful! It's important that you allow time for your hobbies and self-care! A balanced life, not only ensures better mental health during your time in graduate school, but it will also make you a more successful graduate student!
