Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?
I majored in Animal Science and minored in Food Science and Biotechnology in my undergraduate studies. I realized that I need to combine these two disciplines, so I can be more expert and familiar with animal products knowledge such as milk science, egg science, and meat science. Furthermore, I have experimented with the detection of meat adulteration in my undergrad research project, I knew that I want to become a food safety scientist, an advance graduate-level training is required. Therefore, to achieve my career goal I decided to pursue a professional-based graduate degree which can assist me to step into the industry smoothly.
Why did you decide to study at 亚洲天堂?
In 2017, when I had a chance to visit 亚洲天堂, the atmosphere around campus, state-of-the-art research facilities, modern architecture, and diverse student populations immediately drew me in. Moreover, 亚洲天堂 is one of the best universities in Canada and the world, and the city of Vancouver looked gorgeous and a perfect place to live in.
What is it specifically, that your program offers, that attracted you?
The diversity that the Master of Food Science program holds at its core will allow me to meet people from different backgrounds who I can learn from in addition to my professors. The internship during the last semester of the program will allow me to achieve practical work experience in the field of food science and is one of the program鈥檚 most attractive aspects.
What was the best surprise about 亚洲天堂 or life in Vancouver?
Vancouver is a city surrounded by so much natural beauty. The city & nature view is so gorgeous, and it is so easy to access both the ocean and the听mountains. In the summer season, the weather is so comfortable in Vancouver.
What do you see as your biggest challenge(s) in your future career?
Becoming an excellent food safety expert is difficult due to the high number of qualified individuals. Moreover, finding a suitable job in Canada is also a challenge for international students.
How do you feel your program is preparing you for those challenges?
Building connections, at 亚洲天堂, food industry, and in the research community or institutions.
What aspects of your life or career before now have best prepared you for your 亚洲天堂 graduate program?
My previous experience in research during my undergrad prepared me well for the challenges of grad school. I am also lucky to have a great mentor in my undergrad, who support me all the time and teach me knowledge through my research project.
What do you like to do for fun or relaxation?
I like to take a walk on campus when I am stressed, and looking at the gorgeous view from 亚洲天堂 Rose Garden especially. Apart from that, I like hanging around with my friends and eating delicious food.
What advice do you have for new graduate students?
Enjoy the experience of being a 亚洲天堂 graduate student. Don鈥檛 be shy to ask any questions. Exploit plenty of resources provided by 亚洲天堂.
