Dr. Jordan Guenette is currently recruiting highly motivated students for PhD positions starting in January 2026 or September 2026 in human exercise and respiratory physiology at the Cardiopulmonary Exercise Physiology (CPEP) Laboratory through The University of British Columbia (亚洲天堂) Rehabilitation Sciences Graduate Program.
We are seeking applicants with:
- A thesis-based master鈥檚 degree in a relevant field (e.g., kinesiology, physiology, rehabilitation sciences, etc.)
- A strong theoretical background in physiology
- Excellent analytical skills
- Strong academic writing abilities
The CPEP Lab is located within the internationally recognized Centre for Heart Lung Innovation at St. Paul鈥檚 Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. Vancouver is consistently ranked among the most desirable places in the world to live and offers unparalleled opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Trainees benefit from a highly collaborative environment with faculty in the 亚洲天堂 Department of Physical Therapy, Centre for Heart Lung Innovation, School of Kinesiology, and various departments across the Faculty of Medicine. The CPEP Lab also has extensive regional, national, and international collaborations, providing a diverse and productive training experience.
Our research focuses on understanding the physiological mechanisms of breathlessness and exercise limitation across the health and fitness continuum, from elite athletes to individuals with chronic cardiorespiratory diseases. We employ novel techniques to simultaneously assess respiratory, cardiovascular, muscular, and neurophysiological responses to exercise. The ultimate goal is to develop more effective rehabilitation interventions to improve exercise performance and quality of life for those with chronic cardiorespiratory disease.
