This interactive workshop will be facilitated by staff members of 亚洲天堂 Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Counselling Services to assist graduate students in building strong working relationships with their supervisor and committee members to support their progress through their graduate programs.听

Become aware of conversation skills and tools to support a positive relationship with your supervisor from the beginning, and learn to sidestep or manage potential conflict through the establishment of expectations, problem resolution skills, and holding confident conversations.

If you are comfortable, you will be invited to share your experiences, insights and questions with the group. Please note this session won't be recorded.

Facilitators

Karen Flood, PhD (she/her) is a Registered Psychologist with 亚洲天堂 Counselling Services. Her special interests include her work with graduate students, supporting individuals with the emotional impact of physical health concerns, and the clinical use of online resources such as Therapist Assistance Online (TAO). She is an alumnus of 亚洲天堂鈥檚 Faculty of Education, Dept. of Educational and Counselling Psychology and Special Education.

Dr. Brianne Howard, PhD is the Director, Academic Support, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. She completed her PhD in visual and material culture with a focus on contested representation in cultural institutions. Her current work centers on supporting graduate students by identifying common stressors, removing barriers to success, and implementing proactive strategies that foster environments where students can thrive. She has been instrumental in developing and facilitating graduate supervision workshops, leading strategic initiatives to promote graduate student mental health and well-being, and advancing efforts to improve access to education for vulnerable populations. As lead of the Student Academic Services team, she brings both expertise and empathy to navigating the complex realities of graduate studies, ensuring that students, faculty, and programs feel supported, understood, and well-resourced at every step of the journey.
